Each person who joins the National Arbor Day Foundation during January will receive 10 free flowering trees as part of the foundation's Trees for America campaign. Each new member will receive two white flowering dogwoods, two flowering crabapples, two Washington hawthorns, two American rosebuds, and two goldenraintrees.


The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting, between Feb. 1 and May 31, with planting instructions. The trees are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced free of charge.

Nevada Magazine offers 2007 historical calendar


Nevada Magazine is having a last-chance sale of its 2007 Nevada Historical Calendar. The calendar features historical photos of flappers wearing "daring" 1920s woolen bathing dresses at the fountain in front of Bowers Mansion, 1901 graduates of Stewart Indian School, and the visit of a World War I tank to Ely.

Nevada State Library and Archives has tax forms


The Nevada State Library and Archives has all of the basic Federal Income tax forms, including 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ, and their instructions.


In addition, the library offers schedules with instructions, as well as many of the other forms and publications necessary to complete tax preparation the traditional way.


The library is at 100 N. Stewart St. and is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For information, call 687-3360.




Douglas County


'Rabbit Hole' auditions will be Monday


The Dakota Organization, a nonprofit theater production company based in Minden, will hold auditions for its upcoming play "Rabbit Hole," at 7 p.m. Monday at the organization's office, 1669 Lucerne, Minden.


Auditions will be for five roles: Becca, female, 40s; Howie, male, 40s; Izzie, female, 30s; Nat, female, 60s; Jason, male, 17.


The play is March 3-5 and 9-11 at the CVIC Hall in Minden. Those interested in auditioning must be willing to commit to an intensive rehearsal schedule with the director in Reno, up to five nights per week. Rehearsals begin in January and take place initially at the Lear Theater in Reno.

'The Life and Times of a Snowman' to be Saturday


The 2007 Winter Funderland Family Series continues at 1 p.m. Saturday at Galena Creek Regional Park with "The Life and Times of a Snowman."
