Diaper Dash runs through Jan. 26


Through Jan. 26, KYCC Christian radio station, 88.1 FM, "Your Christian Companion," launches its fifth annual Pregnancy Center Baby Shower. From 3-6 p.m. Jan. 26 KYCC will host a "Diaper Dash" contest in which the station sends radio personalities in pregnancy centers or businesses to collect diapers, baby items or donations for supporting this ministry for life.


This will be the first year The Community Pregnancy Center, 222 E. Washington St., will participate in this contest to see if they can raise the most diapers (or baby items). The center is asking for community support in this effort to win the title of "Diaper King" of the New Year. For information, visit www.kycc.org.




Donate blood during January and win prizes


United Blood Services, 256 E. Winnie Lane, will be offering prizes for donors who donate during the month of January. Among those prizes are a 42-inch plasma television, an all-day ski pass for two at Boreal Mountain Resort, lunch or dinner for two at Applebee's, and an overnight stay for two at Harrah's Reno. Walk-ins welcome.

Classes on tutoring adults to read in Carson


Carson City Literacy Volunteers will be holding its bi-annual training class for those interested in tutoring adults to read from 6-9 p.m. Jan. 24 and 25, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Jan. 27, and from 6-9 p.m. Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.


All classes must be completed for certification.


Classes will be at the Nevada State Library and Archives building, 100 N. Stewart St. For information or to sign up, call 885-1010.


Free dance lessons offered every Wednesday


Free dance lessons are offered for seniors ages 70 and older at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday at World Gym on Fairview Drive. Membership at the gym is not necessary.

Happy Senior Tours to visit John Ascuaga's


Happy Senior Tours' trip will be to John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks on Wednesday. The bus leaves at 8:15 a.m. from the east side of the Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Cost is $16 per person. Call 882-3352.




Learn about the Southern Pacific Railroad on Wednesday night


Richard Orsi will present a program on the Southern Pacific Railroad at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. This talk is based on his book entitled "Sunset Limited: The Southern Pacific Railroad and the Development of the West 1850-1930." The museum is at 2180 S. Carson St. Call 687-6953.
