Eric Maupin and Luke Babbitt combined for 40 points Tuesday as Galena's boys' basketball team easily defeated Fallon, 78-48, in a High Desert League game at the Greenwave's Elmo Dericco Gym.
The Grizzlies evened their overall record to 9-9, 2-0 in the HDL. Fallon falls to 2-11 and 0-3 in the conference.
Fallon coach Corey Williams sais his team didn't play like it has in the past.
"We knew it (playing Galena) would be difficult," Williams said.
Galena jumped on Fallon for a quick 8-0 lead and continued to attack Fallon from the inside and short jump shots. Maupin tallied six of his game-high 22 points in the first two minutes of the game, while Babbitt added four points. Junior guard Markis Robinson's quickness led to six points for a 24-8 Galena lead.
Galena outshot the Wave, 19-13, in the second period. Fallon tried to slice the lead on baskets form Charlie Lockwood, Brian Perkins and Brice Hunter, but the Grizzlies' depth proved to be too much for the Wave.
During the final four minutes, Babbitt lit up the scoreboard with eight points including a pair of 15-foot fade-away jumpers, and Maupin nailed a 3-point shot. Jared Floyd also sunk a trey for Fallon.
Williams said Fallon did not have a good match-up with Babbitt.
Galena began the third quarter with a 13-0 run. Maupin worked the inside against Fallon, while Robinson scored from the baseline.
Fallon earned six points from two Kort Schank treys. Schank also opened the fourth quarter with a 3-point shot to finish the game with 11 points.
The Wave scored a season-high eight treys against the Grizzlies.
Floyd added seven points for Fallon, while Alex Rodriguez added five. Hunter and Lockwood each scored four points. Dexter Daum, Russell Smith and Billy Sorensen each tallied three points.
Galena also had balanced scoring. J.D. Peters scored nine points, while Robinson and Gabriel Leborburu added eight, and Brice Crook had seven.
