Erik Hopper was on fire for the Dayton High boys basketball team, hitting nine three-pointers on his way to scoring 34 points to help the Dust Devils to a come-from-behind 62-51 win over Fernley on Saturday.
Fernley led 18-15 after one quarter before the Dust Devils (9-0 in the Northern 3A) came back to take 37-32 halftime lead. Dayton then turned up its defensive intensity to take control in the second half, leading 55-41 after three quarters.
"They came out ready to go and made some early shots," said Dayton coach T.W. Cunningham about Fernley. "It all comes down to us playing hard defensively."
Jacob Jones scored 11 points and Mike Vincent and Tanner Wood each added seven points for Dayton.
"It was still within the flow of the offense and he played a great game defensively, too," said Cunningham about Hopper.
