Carson City Sheriff's deputies will be working overtime to conduct seat-belt enforcement through Friday
"Safety belts are the single most effective way to reduce injuries and fatalities on our roads. Over 65 percent of fatalities recorded on Nevada roadways were not wearing seat belts," said Deputy Jarrod Adams. "Yet, regardless of public information and media campaigns, almost 20 percent of the motoring public does not wear safety belts on a regular basis."
Adams said that each year, vehicle crashes kill more than 40,000 people nationally and they are the leading cause of death among young people. Vehicle crashes injure more than 2 million people nationally and are the No. 1 cause of job-related deaths.
Overtime for this campaign is paid by a Joining Forces grant administered by the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety, Department of Public Safety.
