A graveside service for William Walter Dickens Sr., 76, a Carson City resident since 1977, will be 12:45 p.m. Tuesday at Northern Nevada Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.
Mr. Dickens died Jan. 23, 2007. He was born March 12, 1930, in Omaha, Neb., to William Henry and Ora A. Dickens.
He married Mollie Jean Sheffield on Dec. 31, 1949.
He worked for many years in car and recreational vehicle sales in Lancaster, Calif. Once he moved to Carson City, he managed Nevada Glass for many years.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-63. While in the service, he received the Korean Service Medal, the United Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal, as well as taking part in the atomic bomb tests in the Bikini Islands in 1952. He was a disabled veteran.
He was preceded in death by brother Richard Dickens and sister Shirley.
Among his survivors are his wife of 57 years, of Carson City; sons William Dickens Jr., James Dickens, and Larry Dickens and daughter Kathleen Prestel all of Carson City; brothers Robert Dickens of Carson City and Stanley Dickens of Tehachapi, Calif.; sister Barbara Dickens of Littlerock, Calif.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
