Carson City


Youth take part in fast


Youth of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community will be going through Carson City neighborhoods Friday and Saturday seeking donations of nonperishable food items as they participate in a 24-hour Food Fast.


The fast is to bring awareness of hunger in the world and to raise money and food for Friends in Service Helping and Catholic Relief Services worldwide.


This is St. Teresa's fifth Food Fast since 2003. Call 882-1968.




Auditions set for 'Wiz'


The BAC Stage Kids announces auditions for "The Wiz," an adaptation of the classic children's novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum. Auditions will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the Performance Hall at the Brewery Arts Center, 511 W. King St.


The show will run two weekends, April 6-15 . The cast will include ages 6 to 16. Director will be Andie Anderson. Auditioners should prepare a 1-minute song and be prepared for movement and dance. Call 883-1976 or visit www.breweryarts.org.




Senior center to offer computer classes


Carson City Senior Citizens Center offers computer classes. "Introduction to Computers" is 9-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Feb. 12 for four weeks. The fee is $40 per person. "Internet Workshop" is 1-4 p.m. Feb. 20 and 22. This class requires a basic computer proficiency.

Lake Tahoe


Tech N9ne plays at MountBleu resort


Tech N9ne, the acclaimed rapper out of Kansas City, will take the stage at inside the MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa at 7:30 tonight


Known for his lyrical skills and machine-gun like delivery, Tech has proven to be an accomplished touring artist.


He has recorded with such legends as 2Pac, Eminem and Roger Troutman


MontBleu Theater doors will open at 7:30 p.m. with the show to begin at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 at (800) 648-3353, at www.ticketmaster.com.


All tickets are general admission and the show is open to all ages.


Music group to play at Whiskey Dick's


Swollen Members, in support of their new album "Black Magic," appear at Whiskey Dick's Saloon in South Lake Tahoe 9 p.m. Sunday.


Labelmates Sweatshop Union will also perform. Tickets available for $20 at the Mad About Music and Tahoe Hemp Co. and at www.ticketweb.com.


This event is for those 21 and over.


Reno


Nevada Opera gala at Grand Sierra Resort


The Nevada Opera Gala 2007, "Cinderella's Black & White Ball," will be 6 p.m. Friday in the Reno Ballroom of the Grand Sierra Resort.


Dress for the fundraising dinner is modern-day formal - and in Reno that tends to mean suits for the men and evening gowns or cocktail dresses for the women. It is traditional to wear black and/or white to this gala.


Individual ticket prices are $150 each. We also have a "student prince or princess" price for full-time high school and college students of $75 per person.
