Senior center to offer computer classes


The Carson City Senior Citizens Center will offer two computer classes in February. "Introduction to Computers," a beginner's class, will meet from 9-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Feb. 12 for four weeks. The fee for this class is $40 per person.


"Internet Workshop" meets from 1-4 p.m. Feb. 20 and 22. This class requires a basic computer proficiency. Cost is $20 per person.

'Fire & Ice' benefit sale is this Saturday


The Crisis Call Center and Rogers Jewelers will be holding a benefit for the call center "Fire & Ice," Saturday. For information, call 784-8085.




FISH, IRS provide free tax assistance


FISH and the IRS will be teaming up for the 18th year to assist low income and senior families with tax preparation for free. Assistance will be provided on Saturdays starting Saturday and running through April 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the FISH classroom, located at 138 E. Long St. suite C. Appointments are required for filing; walk-ins with questions only will be served on a time available basis. Interested individuals should bring the 2006 tax package they received in the mail, W-2 statements, interest statements from banks (form 1099), pension forms 1099R and Social Security forms SSA1099, as well as a copy of last years return and any other relevant information concerning income and expenses. 'All About Orchids' at the Greenhouse Garden


The Greenhouse Garden Center, located at 2450 S. Curry St., will be holding a guest speaker seminar by Dr. Eugene Horsley, entitled "All About Orchids," at 11 a.m. Saturday. The seminar is free, and no reservations are required. For information, call 882-8600.

Natives and Newcomers to meet Thursday; sign up deadline Tuesday


The Natives and Newcomers Club will be meeting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Carson Nugget's upstairs banquet room. The theme this month will be "A Valentine's Day Party."

Alzheimer's seminar scheduled for Feb. 9


The Alzheimer's Association will be holding a two-hour luncheon seminar from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at Merrill Gardens, located at 1565 A. Virginia Ranch Road in Gardnerville. RSVP to 782-3100.


DAWG to host "Super Dog Saturday"


The Douglas Animal Welfare Group will hold a pet adoption event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Douglas Animal Shelter, located at 921 Pinenut Road in Gardnerville. There will be special Super Dog gifts, and all adult dogs and cats adopted will receive free spays or neuters. There will be a tailgate party as well, celebrating the upcoming Super Bowl.
