Heading into this week's Volleyball Festival in Reno, Carson City's Capital City Volleyball Club had two teams seeded high in the tournament.
The tournament, which began on Monday and runs through Saturday, features more than 700 teams with 8,000 players. The tournament is the largest women's sporting event in the world.
Capital City Volleyball Club's 16 Black team is seeded eighth out of 188 teams in its division and the 15 Black team is seeded 21st out of 111 teams.
Capital City Volleyball Club has 16 teams competing this week, the third largest number of teams from any club in the tournament. Team members come from Carson Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Lyon and Washoe Counties. Capital City has teams competing in virtually every division from ages 12-17.
Capital City Volleyball Club director Danny McLaughlin is coaching the Black 15 teams and is the Whittell High coach. He said his team has a strong chance to move up in the standings with a top 20 finish his goal. The team is led by Douglas High outside hitter Jourdan Burke and setters Alyssa Meihack from Fallon and Lauren Andrew from Whittell.
The 16 team hopes to finish in the top eight and is led by Yerington's Kayla Lommori, Galena's Emily Aguiar, Douglas High's Megan Mitchell and Truckee's Melanie Lashbrook. The team is coached by Steve George.

YOUTH CLINIC
Capital City Volleybal Club's Silver Stave Volleyball Academy is offering its "Fun"-damentals clinics for boys and girls ages 8-12. The clinics will run from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 10-28.
