National 11-12s lose a heartbreaker

The Carson National 11-12-year-old all-stars lost a heartbreaker on Tuesday in the district tournament, falling 12-11 against Reno American East in Reno.

The Nationals (1-1) overcame a 7-0 deficit to tie the score 8-8 before falling. Charlie Banfield hit a two-run home run during a three-run rally in the fifth inning as the Nationals tied the score 8-8.

But Reno responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 12-8 lead. The Nationals scored three runs in the sixth before falling short.

Banfield also tripled, T.J. Thomsen went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI, Gehrig Tucker was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Logan Krupp had a hit and an RBI, Matt Nolan had a hit and a run, Hunter Hand doubled with two RBI and Alex Holcomb, Rory Petersen and Zach Hudson all added a hit for the Nationals.

The Nationals will play at 5:30 p.m. today against Reno National at Reno's Terrace Park.
