A male plant worker at the Silver Springs General Improvement District has withdrawn a sexual harassment complaint against former board member Kay Bennett.

Lyon County Human Resources director Steve Englert said the former GID Board, which included Bennett, Bob Freeman, Trudy Kolsch, Chrysti Barbee and Bob Wells, had contacted the Lyon County's insurer to investigate the matter, but since the board has since been dissolved, the employee was willing to retract his complaint.

"Since he would no longer be working for that board, he rescinded it," Englert said. He declined to identify the employee.

The complaint was rescinded on June 27, and the investigation was terminated.

The Nevada Public Insurance Agency Pool contracted with Gladding and Michael of Reno to investigate the complaint, but after the Lyon County Commissioners dissolved the GID board last month, the firm contacted the county to ascertain if the investigation should continue, Englert said.

The Silver Springs GID operates a sewage treatment plant and the worker was employed at that plant.

The Lyon County Commissioners are now the ex-officio GID board members, and the plant workers now work under the auspices of the county.

Bennett, 70, said in a statement she is pleased that her name has been cleared. She said she plans to focus her energies now on running the Silver Springs Airport, which she co-manages with her husband, Hale.
