The semifinals and championship round of the Joe DiMaggio State Tournament in baseball will be held today and Sunday at Western Nevada College's John L. Harvey Field.

The semifinal round will be held at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. today with the championship round to be held at 11 a.m. Sunday. If necessary, another game will be played at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The winner of the tournament will advance to the Joe DiMaggio World Series also to be held at John L. Harvey Field July 26-31. As host of the World Series, the Sierra Sun Devils have received an automatic berth to the event.

Slick Racing No. 1 in drag boat racing

Slick Racing, a drag boat race team based in Lake Tahoe, moved into the No. 1 points position in the International Hot Boat Association's Division 1 Top Eliminator class last weekend.

The IHBA held its fourth race of the 2007 season where Paul Fontenot, resident of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, owner of Slick Racing and driver of "I'm Back - Hot-n-Bothered," a Deaver Pickle Fork Hydro, with a 474 Chevy alcohol injected motor, was able to take the No. 1 position by eliminating the reigning 2006 World Champion.

This year, Slick Racing has been competing in the Top Eliminator class, which is a 9-second, quarter-mile bracket, with the goal of obtaining the IHBA - Division 1 - World Championship.

The IHBA Division 1 season consists of seven races per year in Arizona, California, Oregon and Texas.

Also on the Slick Racing crew are Nancy Lillywhite, Ron Muetzenberg, Phil Johnson, Jack Kincaid Johnson, and Peggy Fontenot.

Volleyball officials are badly needed

The Northern Nevada Volleyball Officials Association is in desperate need of officials to work high school matches during the upcoming season.
