A celebration of life for Cleo E. Costa, 81, a Carson City resident since 1989, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley, 1281 N. Roop St.

Mrs. Costa died July 21, 2007, at her home. She was born Oct. 12, 1925, in Springfield, Ill., to Mendelous Paul Smith and Edna Eleanor Smith.

She graduated from Springfield High School in Springfield.

She married Louis L. Costa Sr. on May 6, 1958, in Zephyr Cove.

Prior to living in Carson City, she was a longtime resident of Vallejo, Calif.

She was employed at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in the commissary, and later worked as lead housekeeper for several hotels. She was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Women's Auxiliary No. 315 in Vallejo.

Mrs. Costa enjoyed crocheting afghans for the homebound, baking cakes for her family and friends, playing keno and bingo, and was a longtime member of the Carson City Raiders Booster Club. She also enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.

She was preceded in death by her brother Roy Smith in 1981.

Among her survivors are her husband, of Carson City; sons Larry Redding of Las Vegas, Louis "Sam" Costa Jr. and his wife Gwen, of Vallejo, and Glenn "Dusty" Costa of Carson City; daughters Christine Redding of Dayton, Kathy Giafrancisco and her husband JR of Chino Valley, Ariz., Martha Thompson of Vacaville, Calif., Edna Baron and her husband Ron of Mound House, Rhonda Costa-Landers and her husband Robert Landers Sr. of Dayton; 17 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A gathering will be held immediately after the service at the Carson City Elks Lodge, 515 N. Nevada St.

The family requests donations be made in Cleo's name to the Carson City Raiders Booster Club, P.O. Box 584, Carson City, NV 89701, or St. Mary's Hospice of Northern Nevada, 18653 Wedge Parkway, Reno, NV 89511.

Cremation will take place at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
