Galena Spartans advance to Joe DiMaggio World Series

Garrett Hill allowed just one run over six innings to lead the Galena Spartans to a 4-1 win over the Reno Knights on Sunday at John L. Harvey Field, sending the Spartans to the Joe DiMaggio State Tournament title.
The Spartans advanced to the Joe DiMaggio World Series to be played July 26-31 at John L. Harvey Field.
The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Brian Poynter singled, advanced to second on Pete Lazzari's sacrifice bunt and scored on Jake Hess' RBI single. The Knights tied it in the second on Max Marin's home run, but that was it for the Knights against Hill, who picked up the win.
The Spartans took a 3-1 lead in the third on Poynter's RBI triple. Poynter then scored on a groundout.
In the sixth, J.D. Peters doubled and scored on Scott Underwood's single to give the Spartans a 4-1 lead.
Glenn Wallace pitched six solid innings for the Knights before Blake Hinkel came on to pitch a scoreless seventh. Levi Stafford came on in the bottom of the seventh and retired the side in order to pick up the save.
Lazzari had two hits, including a double and Poynter also had two hits. J.D. Judd had two hits, including a double, and Austin Nyman had two hits for the Knights.
