Volunteers sought to help seniors
RSVP currently needs volunteers who will assist the elderly, help in other nonprofits and assist in county offices. For more than 30 years the Nevada Rural Counties RSVP has been helping seniors remain in their homes, rather than be institutionalized. Interviews are Wednesday for bachelor auction
Carson City Active 20-30 Club hosts bachelor and bachelorette interviews for the its Bachelor and Bachelorette Auction at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at B'Sghetti's, 318 N. Carson St. Interested singles must be over the age of 21.

Mackay tea service topic of program
Rachel Dolbier, administrator of the W.M. Keck Earth Science and Mineral Engineering Museum at the Mackay School of Earth Sciences and Engineering will give a presentation of the Mackay Family Silver at 7:30 tonight at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St. The family's silver is a unique 1,250-piece set of sterling dinner and dessert service for 24 completed in 1878.

Summer reading program features Shakespeare
"Get a Clue" is the theme of the summer reading program at the Douglas County Public Library. At 1 p.m. Thursday the Nevada Shakespeare Company will present a play based on Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" at the Zephyr Cove Library. This interactive workshop features activities to help children understand Shakespeare and theater as a whole. This free program is for ages 6 and up.

Casino offers wine tasting night
Sierra Gold ultra-tavern in Reno hosts a wine tasting event that will feature its new half-bottle wine menu 6-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Sierra Gold girls will be making their way through the tavern with signature Sierra Gold appetizers and guests may sample featured wines from Sierra Gold's new wine menu.

Poetry readings at Squaw Valley
The 38th annual Squaw Valley Community of Writers will convene again this summer with workshops in poetry, fiction, nonfiction and screenwriting. The internationally renowned Poetry Workshop, directed by former U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Hass will meet for a week.
The Squaw Valley Community of Writers will present poetry readings by the five staff poets at 8:15 p.m. Thursday.
Writers and poets Jimmy Santiago Baca, Robert Hass, Brenda Hillman, Sharon Olds and Claudia Rankine will read from their published and unpublished work at Olympic Village Lodge in Squaw Valley.
