Jesse Rasner pitched a two-hit complete game as the Nevada Bighorns won the opener of a doubleheader, 9-1, against the Chico (Calif.) Sabres on Saturday at Ron McNutt Field.
The Bighorns settled for a split as they lost the nightcap 3-0. Rasner struck out five over seven innings in his complete game effort. The Bighorns scored five runs in the fifth inning to break the game open and take a 9-1 lead.
Daniel Eastham hit a two-run home run, Steve Mays ahd two doubles and two RBI, Adam Anderson had a hit and three RBI, Kevin Schlange hit a two-run single and Aaron Henry and Jeff Young each had two hits.
The Bighorns could only muster four hits against Kris Server in the nightcap. Eastham was the tough luck loser allowing two earned runs on just two hits while striking out 10 over seven innings.
Server was pulled in the seventh after walking Nick Nyman and Brian Peat to begin the inning. But David Cain came on and retired the next three batters to pick up the save.
Shane Kockenmeister doubled and Young, Peat and Jonathan Silva each had a hit to account for the Bighorns' hits.
The Bighorns will next play against the Reno Astros at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Moana Stadium.
