Computer class opens for enrollment at senior center

The following classes will be offered at the Carson City Senior Center in August:

Introduction to Computers will be offered beginning Monday and continuing through Aug. 22, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m. This class is designed for beginning students and includes introductory sessions on the Internet and e-mail. Cost, including all materials is $40.

The Internet is offered 1-4 p.m. Aug. 6 and 8. Students who have had some computer experience will benefit most from this workshop. Cost is $20, including all materials.

Intermediate Computers begins on Aug. 14 and continues through Aug. 30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3 p.m. This class is designed for those with basic computer skills. Cost is $30.

Each of these classes is limited to eight students, and enrollment is now open at the business office of the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Call 883-0703, ext. 222.

Carson Symphony Association elects trustees for 24th season

The Carson City Symphony Association Inc., elected trustees for the orchestra's 24th season at its recent membership meeting. Newly elected trustee is Carson City resident Len Hamer, whose son Nathaniel has played string bass in the Symphony and is now studying music at the University of Nevada, Reno. Trustees Grant Mills of Fallon, Andrew Spieker of Glenbrook, and Norma Summey of Topaz, were re-elected for additional three-year terms. The nine-member board also includes Elinor Bugli, Edith Isidoro-Mills, Salli Dulco, Charlotte Tucker and Sue Kitts. Officers for the 2007-08 season are Elinor Bugli, president; Grant Mills, vice president; Edith Isidoro-Mills, recording secretary; and Charlotte Tucker, treasurer.

The Carson City Symphony Association is a nonprofit educational corporation and is the principal support group for the Symphony, conducted by David Bugli, the Carson Chamber Singers, directed by Judy Monson, and the "Strings in the Schools" program, directed by Sue Kitts.

The board serves as the administrative organization for the performing groups, raises funds, publicizes concerts, and publishes a newsletter.

The opening concert of the 2007-08 Carson City Symphony season will be 4 p.m. Oct. 21 with a preview at 3:15 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center. Guest soloist is violinist Andrew Sords, performing Beethoven's "Violin Concerto." As a lead-in to Nevada Day, New York composer Steven Rosenhaus will conduct his suite, the "Nevada Bagatelles." Other Symphony concerts are Dec. 9, Feb. 24, April 26 and 27, and a Sunday in June.

Comma's Backseat Gallery and Zartist.com present "Watercolors By Eileen" from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

Eileen Fuller has a realistic style in her watercolors that give one a sense of being in the scene. She has also done commission works such as children's portraiture, indoor wall murals and pet portraiture. Call 883-2662.

Alzheimer's Association seeks help with silent auction

To enhance the quality of its Silent Auction, Aug. 18, the Carson City Alzheimer's Association is in need of white wine and wine glasses, as well as gift certificates for goods, services, and products are needed. Vendors, car and bike enthusiasts needed for state-wide fundraiser

"You Can't Say No ... You Gotta Go" fundraisers are looking for craft vendors and car and bike enthusiasts for its inaugural state-wide fundraising event from 3-11 p.m. Sept. 29, with all proceeds going to the Patriot Fund of Nevada. In turn all funds will be disbursed to the soldiers' families.
