RENO - After putting together one of the best seasons in school history, 35-26, University of Nevada head baseball coach Gary Powers has announced the signing of Feather River JC pitcher Chris Garcia and Yuba City's Brock Stassi.

Garcia, who played at Reed High School, played just one season at Feather River Community College and was named the 2007 Golden Valley League Pitcher of the Year. The left-hander went 13-1 with 1.67 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 102.2 innings pitched as a freshman. He will have three seasons remaining to pitch for the Wolf Pack.

Stassi sparked his team to a 30-1 record and the Division III Sac-Joaquin Section title. A two position player who is a left-handed pitcher and outfielder, Stassi tossed a six-hitter in the section title game to end his senior season 10-0. The Tri-County Conference Most Valuable Player had 98 strikeouts in 63 innings on the mound. Offensively he hit .440 for the Honkers.

Stassi's dad, Jim, starred two seasons for the Pack from 1981-82 and was inducted into the Nevada Wolf Pack Hall of Fame in 2005.

"I'm extremely pleased we could add such quality arms to our staff for next season," said Powers. "The fact that they are both left-handed is even a bigger plus with all the left-handed hitters we face during the season. Brock will also be given a chance to battle for time in the outfield and provides us another left-handed bat."
