Locals win awards at Tae Kwon Do event

Several local students brought back many awards from a Tae Kwo Do Tournament held over the weekend at Stanford.

Grand Master Chi Duong led a small group of his students to the Stanford University 2007 spring open Tae Kwon Do tournament.

The Stanford tournament included Tae kwon do schools from all over the United States with more than 480 competitors. The tournament followed the World Tae Kwon Do Federation guidelines, including competitions in Poomsae (Forms), Sparring, and Breaking.

Local students receiving awards in Poomsae competition included: Varun Pandit, age 5, first, and Josh Hurd, age 14, second.

Awards in Sparring included: Josh Hurd first;, Magnus Johnson first; Logan Johnson first, Varun Pandit second; Nick Hummel second.

Paul Chang and Edwin Seiler served as tournament referees and Mr. Tracy Coleman served as the coach.

Other participants were: Taylor Bradshaw, age 13, Jesse Wilcox, age 8, and Marco Torres, age 7.

Grand Master Chi has been the Nevada State Referee Chairman and Nevada State TKD Vice President. Additionally he is certified as a national referee for United States Tae Kwon Do Union, and is an International referee for the World Tae Kwon Do Federation.
