This is a final reminder that the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) is requesting the assistance of volunteers to help with its annual planting of trout in Ash Canyon Creek on Monday afternoon, June 18.

Ash Canyon Creek is located just west of Carson City, and it is planted once a year with either rainbow or brook trout.

This year, the fish planting will consist of approximately 500-650 Eastern brook trout, which will be 9-10 inches in length.

The trout were raised at the NDOW Gallagher Fish Hatchery, located near Ely.

Anyone interested in helping is requested to meet in the parking lot near McDonald's at the old K-Mart Shopping Center on the north end of Carson St. at 5:30 p.m. on that date.

Volunteers are requested to wear work clothing and sturdy shoes or boots.

They will need to be prepared to work in teams of two to carry a heavy metal can full of water and fish for about 400 yards down a steep ridge to the creek.

The entire planting process today should only take about two hours.

For information, call Pat Solberger of NDOW at 687-4393 during regular hours.
