The Nevada Appeal is looking for a few good men. Fathers to be exact. For our Father's Day edition we are looking to highlight the best dads in Carson City. So tell us why your father is worthy of the honor of "World's Greatest Dad."

Stories should be no more than 200 words and can be sent to editor@nevadaappeal.com by Thursday. All submissions will be published at www.nevadaappeal.com and the best stories will appear in the Appeal on Father's Day. All stories published in the paper will be entered into a drawing for a free Father's Day dinner.

Questions should be directed to City Editor Kelli Du Fresne at 881-1261.

The Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 7 in Carson City and Chapter No. 1 in Reno have purchased vans for transporting disabled veterans to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Reno for appointments.

Money used for the purchases was received from various fundraisers and donations.

The donations from Carson went to Elko and money from Reno went to Hawthorne. The van in Hawthorne transports patients from there to Reno. The Elko van transports patients to the VA hospital in Salt Lake City, said Les Laberee, hospital service coordinator for the DAV.

Cost to local chapters was between $13,000 and $15,000 with the remaining costs of the Ford vans being funded from the DAV trust, Laberee said.

The Hawthorne van takes about four vets in each of its three trips a week. The van for Gardnerville and Carson City does about the same.

"But sometimes it's full and they'll have eight or nine," he said. "Sometimes it's only two or three."

In all, the DAV has nine vans bringing patients to the hospital. Vans leave from Gardnerville and Carson City, Hawthorne, Winnemucca, Fallon, in Nevada and Quincy, Auburn, Grass Valley, Susanville and Alturas in California.

Vans are replaced about every three years.
