Silver Sox can't muster much offense, commits three errors in losing effort

The Reno Silver Sox couldn't muster much offense in a 3-1 loss to the Chico Outlaws on Monday in Chico, Calif.

Reno has now gone 2-3 against Chico to start the season. The Silver Sox had just four hits against four Chico pitchers. The Silver Sox also had some key defensive breakdowns as three errors led to two unearned runs for Chico that was effectively the difference of the game.

Losing pitcher Matt Parris pitched well, allowing three runs, but just one earned, over five innings while scattering six hits and walking one.

Adam Nikolic finished up, not allowing a hit over three innings while striking out three and walking one.

Reno tied the score 1-1 in the second, but could have scored at least another run. Bub Madrid was hit by a pitch and then stole second, but was picked off at second. Mashai Chikazawa then walked, stole second and scored on Mike Done's single.

Victor Hall, Madrid and Jordon Devoir had Reno's other hits. David Pierson was 3-for-3, Daniel Nava was 2-for-3 and Steve Boggs added a hit for Chico.

Jeff McKinley went 5.1 innings for the win. John Jefferson, John Segovia and Todd Gelatka finished up with Gelatka pitching the ninth to pick up the save.
