CAHI to host celebration

Citizens for Affordable Homes Inc. will celebrate the completion of eight homes in Dayton at 10 a.m. June 23 at 100 Pine Cone Road.

NNDA Golf-A-Thon set for today

Golfers can win a slot machine or wine-tasting party for four at the Northern Nevada Development Association's second annual Golf-A-Thon today at Dayton Valley Golf Course.

Those hitting a hole in one can win $50,000 or a new car. Participants can play 100 holes of golf in one day and proficiency is not required. To play, participants must raise $500 or more in pledges.

Listening library planned

The Cultural and Performing Arts for Dayton Area and the Lyon County library system are beginning a pilot program to create a listening library and a book drive. The listening library will be made up of CDs and DVDs that feature classical music, both instrumental and vocal, operas, jazz, big band and musical theater.

DHS class of '97 reunion on June 28

Dayton High School class of 1997 will hold a 10-year reunion July 28.

The day includes an afternoon of fun and a picnic and barbecue 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Zephyr Cove Resort. Cost is $10 for the family; bring your own refreshments.

A dinner-dance cruise on the MS Dixie II will be later in the day and is for adults only. Cost is $69. Reservations can be made by calling (775) 589-4908.

Pine Leaf Boys concert Saturday

The City of Fallon and the Churchill Arts Council will present a free in-the-park concert with The Pine Leaf Boys at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Oats Park, in front of the Oats Park Art Center.

Formation riding clinic set

There will be a Formation Riding Clinic 101, 10 a.m. June 30, conducted by Vince Pirozzi, 11225 Silver Lane, Hamilton's Arena, Stagecoach.

Sponsored by High Desert Horsemen, the clinic will teach your horse to maneuver in close proximity to other horses. You can also learn how to control your horse in stressful situations. Some of the exercises will be: riding in columns of two, four and eight, as well as moving into and out of a wedge at a walk and a trot.

The clinic is limited to 20 riders. Prepay and register to hold your spot. Clinic fee is $15 members, $25 nonmembers; $5 less for those under 18. Memberships are available the day of the clinic.

Trail Challenge set

High Desert Horsemen, will hold a Trail Challenge at 9 a.m. Saturday at 11225 Silver Lane, Hamilton's Arena, Stagecoach.

Entry fee is $25. Fifty percent of the entry fee goes to the jackpot (split will be 45/25/15/10/5 percent for first through fifth places). Age divisions are 17 and under and 18 and over. Lunch is available for purchase.

Swap meet/yard sale set

The Stagecoach Community Development Foundation will hold a "stop and swap" yard sale June 29 to July 1 at various locations in Stagecoach.

Maps of the area with each yard sale marked will be provided. These can be picked up at the first stop on the map, 8150 Cheyenne Trail on the days of the sale, or at ERA Pioneer Properties, 1050 Highway 50 East in Silver Springs, beginning June 28.

Residents of Stagecoach who wish to have their yard sale on the map must call 629-9243 and give their name and address no later than June 26. There is no charge to be on the map, but a donation to the foundation is appreciated. Call Norris Easley at 720-0250.

Virginia City

4th of July Parade seeks entrants

Virginia City's annual Fourth of July Spectacular will include the traditional parade, Comstock Cowboys Second Amendment Celebration Concert and a fabulous fireworks display.

The Comstock is looking for new parade entries to join the regulars.

Classic cars, equestrian groups, marching groups, bands and many more entries, from the patriotic to the offbeat, will join the annual parade.

Those wishing to enter the parade should call 847-4768 for a parade form.

Forms need to be returned by mail or fax by July 1 to be part of the advance lineup. Late entries are still welcome, but will be put at the end of the parade.

Lineup will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Fourth Ward School.

'Steel Magnolias' moving to Piper's

The play "Steel Magnolias" is moving to Piper's Opera House. The classic tale of six women who meet life head-on within the confines of a beauty parlor has played to sold out crowds at the Gold Hill Hotel since April.

Now the Gold Hill Theatre Troupe will present two encore performances on Piper's stage. The play begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. The bar opens an hour before curtain. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12; a portion of the proceeds going to Piper's Opera House Programs Inc., a nonprofit organization.

High school students present art show

The Comstock History Center in Virginia City will host an art exhibit by the students of Virginia City High School on the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.

The exhibit is open through the month of June, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday through Sunday at the Comstock History Center, 20 N. E St., on the corner of Union and E streets, in Virginia City. The art show has an anti-drug and alcohol abuse theme.

Tour of Sutro ghost town planned

A private tour of the ghost town of Sutro will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 30, hosted by Peter and Dana Leonard. The event is one of the "Parties of the Year" offered by the Historic Fourth Ward School in Virginia City.

The historic town of Sutro is privately owned by the Sutro Tunnel Co.

Access to this historic property is prohibited except as a fundraising opportunity for the Historic Fourth Ward School. Attendance is limited to 30 and the cost is $80 per person. The event will include a barbecue lunch. For more information, call 847-0975.

Printmakers exhibit at the courthouse

A new exhibit "Northern Nevada Printmakers Conspiracy" is at the Lyon County Courthouse Gallery, Lyon County Administrative complex, 27 S. Main St., Yerington.

The show will display the works of 14 artists exhibiting works of contemporary printmaking.

A reception will be 3-5 p.m. Saturday at the Lyon County Administrative complex.

Antique Mall to hold flea markets

The owners of the Antique Mall at 10104 Highway 50 are looking for vendors for their new flea market. The charge is $10 per day, and set-up will begin at 6 a.m.
