Proscenium Players holding auditions for 'Blithe Spirit'

Proscenium Players' first show of the 2007-08 season, "Blithe Spirit" by Noel Coward, will hold auditions 7 p.m. Monday in the Donald W. Reynolds Theatre at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W King St.

A cast of five women and two men ages 20-60 are needed. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Script copies are available for check-out at the BAC office for a deposit of $10.

Production dates are Friday-Saturday nights Sept. 14-29 with one Sunday matinee.

This production is directed by Warren Schader and produced by Pat Josten. Call 887-0438 .

Four-week workshop for youth on singing

A four-week workshop to teach your child to sing will be offered June 16-19. For children 6 and under, the class is taught by professional vocalist and voice instructor Marsh Brodeur.

The first session will be a private assessment that will include the child to best determine the correct teaching process. The remaining three sessions (two hours each) will be parents only.

St. Paul's Lutheran church raising money to buy handbells

St. Paul's Lutheran family has begun raising funds for the purchase of their first three octaves of English Handbells.

The new handbells will arrive in August from Schulmerich Bells in Pennsylvania. Plans are for the new instruments to be played by youth to retirement-aged people and directed by Darlene Lacugna and Ramona Whitson.

Anyone interested in donating money to this project is asked to make the check out to St. Paul's Lutheran Family with the Memo marked 'Handbells.

BMX racers race today for life

Carson City BMX is hosting its annual Race for Life at the Carson City BMX track today.

Sign-ups are 9-10 a.m. and will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The ABA Race for Life is a nationwide series held at every ABA sanctioned BMX track in the U.S. Unlike all regular sanctioned BMX event, anybody can race without becoming an ABA member. Net proceeds from these races are sent to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The Douglas County Senior Center will hold community bingo beginning at 1 p.m. today. The progressive pot has reached $550 and 57 numbers.

Tahoe City hosts Solstice Festival today through June 24

The first Tahoe City Heart and Solstice Festival runs today through June 24.

Athletes complete in the XTERRA Tahoe City Off-Road Triathlon Saturday.

The event continues with the Solstice Sip and Shop, a wine tasting that pairs 15 of the region's top merchants with California wineries and local restaurants.

Participants will shop, sip and taste on a self-guided tour from 2-5 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person in advance and $25 at the event.

The Heart and Solstice Festival will end Sunday with Family Fun Day at 11 a.m. Kids and adults may enjoy kayak water polo, sack and relay races and a fundraising barbecue for the Rideout Community Center. Free Summer Concerts at Commons Beach go from 4-7 p.m., featuring the Blue Monsters and the North Tahoe High School Jazz Ensemble.

Call-in show seeks audience participation this evening

KNPB's OpenLine host Erin Breen invites viewers to participate in a live call-in program from 6-7 p.m. today to discuss the legislative wrap-up. Guest panelists invited include Barbara Buckley, Nevada Assembly, speaker; Sheila Leslie, Nevada assemblywoman; Maurice Washington, Nevada senator and James Settlemeyer, Nevada assemblyman.

Viewers are invited to phone in questions and comments to the panel. A studio audience will also participate.
