It's the mother of all car show and shines in Northern Nevada and it's happening this weekend in Carson City.
The 23rd annual Karson Kruzers "Run What Cha Brung" kicks off the summer classic pastime of cruises and car shows Friday with registration from 6-9:30 p.m. and a street dance from 7-11 p.m. at the Carson Mall on South Carson Street.
Owners of classic cars and trucks, as well as unique vehicles and works in progress from all over the United States, visit Carson City and the area for the nonconcourse judged event. That means the judges are people selected from the community, not members of the car club.
But there are bragging rights. The winner from three categories - People's Choice, Men's Choice and Women's Choice - will end up on the front of next year's T-shirt. Winners from 2006 are: People's Choice - Dona Gomes from Stockton, Calif., 1941 Chevy Coupe; Men's Choice - Paul Duke of Sparks, 1955 Chevy Pickup; Women's Choice - Frank and Bonnie Pence from Stockton, 1934 Ford 2-door Sedan.
"We are accepting applications through Saturday morning registration," said Lorretta Marcin, president of Karson Kruzers.
"There will be judging in 63 categories, done by community members, not car club members."
Saturday events begin at Fuji Park with registration from 7-9:30 a.m. at Fuji Park and a pancake breakfast from 7:30-10 a.m. Participants can purchase the package for $75; community members may attend any of the events, prices for meals will be posted, 2007 T-shirts will also be available for purchase.
"We will have a bounce house and clowns for the kids and everyone," Marcin added. "This is really a time to come out and enjoy the cars and have fun. That's what we like to do."
All show and shine participants must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance.
Saturday's judging will be from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the same time children's activities will be offered.
The poker run is from 8:30-11 a.m. Sunday and the weekend culminates at noon with the awards ceremony.
