Greg Pellici's grand slam home run led an offensive onslaught for the Nevada Bighorns in their 20-7 win over the San Jose Brewers on Friday at Governor's Field.
Tyson Jaquez and Adam Anderson also homered for the Bighorns (12-6). Jaquez hit a solo shot in the first inning to give the Bighorns a 1-0 lead.
After San Jose took a 2-1 lead in the second, the Bighorns responded with five runs in the bottom of the second to take a 6-2 lead. Steve Mays hit an RBI double and Nick Nyman followed with an RBI single.
Aaron Henry and Nyman then pulled off a double steal with Henry stealing second and Nyman stealing home. Jeff Young and Ryan Simpson hit RBI singles to make it 6-2. In the third, Shane Kockenmeister singled and Anderson belted a two-run shot to make it 8-2.
The Bighorns scored six runs in the fifth to make it 14-4. Nyman, Anderson and Young all singled and Jaquez and Simpson followed with RBI singles. Pellici then hit his grand slam.
The Bighorns scored six more runs in the sixth to take a 20-4 lead. Pellici added a two-run double and Mays hit an RBI sacrifice fly during the rally.
Pellici had four hits and six RBI, Young had three hits, Mays, Simpson, Nyman, Jaquez and Anderson all had two hits, Henry doubled and Billy Moss added a hit. Pete Rogan was the winning pitcher, allowing three earned runs over six innings.
The Bighorns will be back in action today as part of a quadrupleheader at Ron McNutt Field. The Nevada Capitols will play South Tahoe in a doubleheader, beginning at 10 a.m. The Bighorns will then play the Brewers in a doubleheader, beginning at 4 p.m.
