Carson City


Comma to show Langson's works


Comma Coffee and zArtist.com present the work of photographer Don Langson at The Backseat Gallery inside Comma Coffee. Langson is a Carson City resident who has traveled the world and will be showing 50 years of work.


Langson is the noted illustrator for the works of artist Amado Maurillo Peña and the recipient of many awards and merits from various juried shows.


Images of Don's European Collection, along with shots on location in California and Mexico, will be on display for the month of July.


A reception will be held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday for the public to drop by and meet Langson. Comma Coffee is at 312 South Carson St. The exhibition and reception are free.




Railroad Museum to run Motor Car


The Nevada State Railroad Museum hosts a special run of the 1926 Edwards Motor Car in celebration of the Independence Day on July 4. The Motor Car will run every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.


Traditionally the Nevada State Railroad Museum celebrates Independence Day by putting under steam the Virginia and Truckee Railroad's famous Inyo locomotive. July 4th weekend is typically the only time of the year that the Inyo runs.


Fares for Motor Car rides are $4 or adults; $3 for seniors 65 up and free for children under 6.


The Nevada State Railroad Museum is open daily from 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 687-6953.




Pleasant Valley


Horsemanship classes open


Maplewood Stables has announced that early registration is open for their Horsemanship Summer Camp in Pleasant Valley, just north of Carson City.


Geared to children from 8 to 17 years of age, the summer camp teaches safety skills, horsemanship, and correct, balanced riding.


Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and sign-ups are open for the following weeks: July 9Ð13; July 23Ð27; Aug. 6Ð10 Aug. 20Ð24.


The cost is $650 for all supplies and instruction.

Incline Village


Boat parade to benefit fire victims


There will be a Fourth of July Boat Parade at Incline Village to raise donations for the victims of the Angora fire.


Owners of boats all sizes are invited to join in. Time is 10 a.m.-noon. Be on site at 9:30 a.m. for boat placement number. Organize west of Burnt Cedar Beach; parade to motor past Incline and Hyatt beaches.


All licensed boat owners will be asked to donate $5 per foot with all funds distributed by the Parasol Foundation to victims of the South Lake Tahoe fire.




Reno


Reno Big Band to play fire benefit


The Reno Big Band will perform a benefit concert for the Lake Tahoe fire victims 8-10 p.m. Tuesday from at the Third Street Blues Club, 125 Third St. in downtown Reno next door to the El Dorado Parking lot exit.


Plan to bring food, clothing and anything else you might think would be helpful for those who have lost so much. The truck will be there for loading and will drive up to Tahoe that evening with all donated supplies.
