A potluck mixer and celebration of life for Roger Michael Long, 58, is 6 p.m. Friday in the Carson Valley United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
Mr. Long died Feb. 23, 2007, at his home in Minden. He was born Oct. 24, 1948, in Portolla, Calif., to Burt E. and Violet E. Long.
He was in one of the first graduating classes of Wooster High School in Reno, class of 1966.
He married Margaret Cary in Virginia City at the Silver Queen Wedding Chapel on July 5, 1982. He and his wife Margaret owned Valley Floor Fashions in Carson Valley.
Mr. Long was an active member of the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Authority, the Douglas Toastmasters and the Dakota Organization to help promote performing arts in the Valley. He enjoyed reading, loved model railroads and was involved in the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase. His favorite get away was Graeagle, Calif., where his parents owned a summer home.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1973, his mother in 1989 and his sister Janice Long in 2002.
Among his survivors are his wife of 25 years, of Minden; sister Joyce Long of Burbank, Calif.; brothers Scott Long of Cottonwood, Ariz., Robert Long of Talihina, Okla. as well as 35 nieces and nephews, eight great nieces and nephews and a great-great niece and nephew.
Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Funeral Home with cremation to take place at Walton's Sierra Crematory in Carson City.
Donations may be made in Roger Long's name to DAWG, Carson Valley Food Closet or a food closet of your choice, the Family Support Council or a women's shelter of your choice or the Douglas County Public Library.
