Man charged in killing of neighbor

A Washoe Valley man was in custody Tuesday in the shooting death of his neighbor, an official said.

Dennis Hayden Campbell, 60, was booked into the Washoe County Jail on suspicion of murder and possession of a firearm while intoxicated. He is being held without bail.

According to Washoe County Sheriff's spokeswoman Deputy Brooke Keast, officers were called to the 4000 block of White Pine Road in Washoe Valley on the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, deputies located the body Randall Kent Miller, 47, lying in a ditch near his home. Also while on scene, deputies made contact Campbell, who lives at 3710 White Pine Dr., and he was brought to the sheriff's office for questioning.

Search and Rescue crews were called out to assist in the search for a woman witnesses claimed was involved. The woman, whose name has not been released, stayed hidden until approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday when she was located, Keast said.

Both the suspect and victim are being identified as Carson City residents because of their mailing addresses, however White Pine Drive is in Washoe Valley, according to the Washoe County Assessor's Web site.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office investigators are asking for anyone who has information on this case to please call 328-3320 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
