Children's Concert today


The Capital City Community Band will be holding it's annual Children's Concert at 3 p.m. today at the Carson City Community Center's Boldrick Theater. This concert will feature young musicians from Carson City. Call 883-2219.




Seed starting, willow furniture classes


There will be a free seed starting class and a meet the crafters event from 1-5 p.m. today at GEM Ventures Garden and Gift Center, 4209 S. Carson St. Participants are encouraged to bring their own seed starting supplies or they can purchase them at a discount. Willow Bill will be showing how he makes furniture. Call 882-6368.




Learn to use a Web browser at library


Reference librarian Susan Antipa will be offering an introduction on using a Web browser at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Carson City Library's Auditorium. The class is recommended for novice Web users; e-mail and chat rooms are not covered. To reserve a seat, call 887-2244.


St. Patrick's Day dinner Tuesday


The American Legion Post No. 4 and auxiliary will be holding its annual St. Patrick's Day dinner and meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Veteran's Hall at Second and Curry streets. There will be a corned beef and cabbage pot luck meal. Call 265-6982 or 885-9128.




'Birds and the Bees' at Comma Coffee


The Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Sheryl Adams and local poets will be holding an evening of jazz and poetry, "the Birds and the Bees," from 8-10 p.m. Tuesday at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St. Admission is $5 general, $4 for members of the Mile High Jazz Band Association, and free for those aged 18 and under. Swing dance instructions are available for an additional $5 from 6-7:30. Call 883-4154.

Bedtime stories with Miss Carol in Minden


There will be bedtime stories with Miss Carol at 6:45 p.m. Monday at the Minden branch of the Douglas County Library, 1625 Library Lane. Children may come dressed in pajamas and bring a favorite blanket or stuffed animal. Call 782-9841.




Lyon County


AARP to offer free tax assistance for seniors


The AARP Tax Service is offering free tax assistance at the Silver Springs Senior Center and Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Road.


Seniors and those who are low-income individuals or families, may call for an appointment. Appointments are available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays and Tuesday. The assistance is available until April 13. Call the center at 577-5014.
