Tatum Boehnke and Kevin Dyer both came away with titles for the Carson Tigersharks swim club at the regional Junior Olympics held over the weekend.
Swimmers from all over Northern California and Northern Nevada competed in the event. Boehnke won the 1,650-yard freestyle in 15-16 girls, finishing in 18 minutes, 38.86 seconds. Dyer won the 15-16 boys 500 free in 4:48.51.
Boehnke was also fourth in the 1,000 free (11:08.32), seventh in the 200 butterfly (2:21.31) and eighth in the 500 free (5:22.50). Dyer was seventh in the 200 backstroke (2:07.32) as well.
Other Tigersharks at the Junior Olympics included Ryan Hogan, who dropped five seconds off his time in finishing fourth in the 15-16 boys 200 fly in 2:06.82. In 17-18 girls, Danielle Judge was fourth in the 400 I.M. in 5:13.02 and eighth in the 200 fly in 2:38.34.
In 15-16 girls, Julie Asire was fourth in the 200 free in 2:00.60 and fifth in the 500 free in 5:19.99. In addition, Jessica Fahrenbruch and Samantha Ashmore achieved several best times.
Other Tigersharks to compete in the meet were Tim Grunert, Jacob Branco and Albert Reed.
RENO SPRING FLING
Swimmers from the Carson Tigersharks also competed in the Reno Spring Fling over the weekend. Those were were able to place and post best times included:
8 and under girls - Kelsey Bradley, Caitlin Campbell, Kali Branco, Mikel Flatley. 9-10 girls - Charlee Bradley. 11-12 girls - Vanessa Rauch, Abby Pittman, Sophie Holmes, Katie Wollner. 13 and older girls - Ally Redmond, Erin Chang, Michelle McDonald, Jill Stroup..
8 and under boys - River Flatey. 9-10 boys - Tallon Rauch. 11-12 boys - Nathanael Williams. 13 and older boys - Kurt Andersen, Paul Chang.
The Tigersharks have finished the short course season and will begin training for the long course season, which will open on Memorial Day weekend when the Tigersharks host the Intermountain Classic at the Carson Aquatic Facility.
