The New Life Foursquare Church will not be able to put modular units at St. Ann's Church in Old Town Dayton.
The Comstock Historic District Commission has rejected the request to use modular units as offices and school rooms. The units would have been placed next to the tiny historic church on Pike Street.
Julie Sutich, a member of the board, said the Historical Society of Dayton Valley did not feel they should make decisions on such matters, so they didn't offer a recommendation.
"We don't want to start bringing in trailers," said Bob Milz, commission chairman. "I don't want to open that can of worms."
He mentioned that in the past Lyon County wanted to use trailers at the Dayton Justice Center and was refused by the commission.
"You'd like to work with them, but if you open this can of worms, everyone will want to have trailers," Milz said.
New Life Foursquare Church holds its Sunday services at 9:30 a.m. at the Dayton Community Center next door to St. Ann's, and youth group meetings at the church on Wednesdays.
According to the Rev. Michael Dallmeier, of St. Ann's, which moved from the tiny Pike Street church to its location on Melanie Drive in Dayton six years ago, the New Life church needs more room.
He said New Life has been renting the small church building until their church is built.
"We were supportive of it (the trailers) if they could get it," he said. "It's temporary quarters, and they needed more room. It would have been a temporary placement."
The church building was brought to the Pike Street location in 1937, Dallmeier said, when the parish began.
