A.B.A.T.E., a motorcycle brotherhood aimed toward education, held a rally at the Harley-Davidson Dealership in Carson City before moving to the Legislature on Saturday afternoon.
The group is hoping to raise support for SB49, currently in the Nevada State Senate Committee on Transportation and Homeland Security.
What is SB49 and what would it do?
SB49 is a freedom of choice helmet bill that would alter the mandatory helmet law to allow riders ages 18 and older to choose whether to wear protective headgear. The bill would still require those 17 and younger to wear protective headgear.
How does the group respond to critics of the bill?
"People say that their insurance will go up, but your insurance will go up no matter what. People think we are against helmets but we aren't. We are for choice and the freedom to choose," said Dale Andrus, A.B.A.T.E. treasurer.
