Easter's on its way, as is college

Next weekend will be hippity-hoppin' with the antics of Peter Cottontail. The Governor's Field Easter Egg Hunt, hosted by the Carson City Kiwanis International, is a local tradition.

It consists of two Easter Egg Hunts on Sunday. The Easter Egg Hunt designed for special-needs children starts at 11 a.m. and allows children who need a little assistance the time and space to get in the hunt. The official hunt will begin at 1 p.m.

Prizes will be given in specially marked eggs.

Here's some of the other activities planned:

Saturday

• Great Virginia City Easter Egg Hunt, 10 a.m., Miner's Park, E. and Carson Streets, Virginia City. Children 10 and under. Some special eggs will have a sticker giving the name of a Virginia City shop. Children should take those eggs to the stores to receive a free gift from that store. The Easter Bunny will be on hand. • Second Annual Mad Hatter's Easter Parade, noon, Virginia City Jerky Company, South C. St., Virginia City. Parade line-up is at 11 a.m. Cash prizes will be offered for the Best, Biggest and Most Bodacious Easter Bonnets. Call 847-4FUN.

• Free Golden Egg Hunt, 11 a.m., Dayton Valley Floral and Nursery, 209 Dayton Valley Road, Dayton. Children 11 and younger can search for the golden egg to win an Easter Bunny. Call 246-5296.

April 8

• 33rd annual grown-up Easter scavenger hunt, 11 a.m., Greenhouse Garden Center, 2450 S. Curry St. Participants who answer all of the clues can enter the drawing to win a preselected tree. Call 882-8600.

The scholarship application deadline for Western Nevada Community College in fall 2007 is Monday - the same day online registration begins for the summer session.

Summer classes run June 11 through Aug. 3.

Some courses fulfill degree requirements or prerequisites at WNCC and other colleges and universities. Classes of varying lengths are available in accounting, art, biology, business, computer applications, English, history, mathematics, music, nursing, philosophy, political science, psychology, Spanish and more.

Fall classes run Aug. 27 through Dec. 14.

More than 60 scholarships are available to WNCC students, including awards for both undecided and undeclared majors.
