Rasner will start for Yankees

It looks like Darrell Rasner will have one shot to convince the New York Yankees he should stay with the club.

The Yankees announced on Thursday that Rasner, a 1999 Carson High graduate, will be the starting pitcher for Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners. The Yankees will also call up Matt DeSalvo to be the starting pitcher for Monday's game against the Mariners. The moves were made necessary when the Yankees' game on Wednesday was rained out.

New York will need either Rasner or DeSalvo to stay in the rotation to take the place of Phil Hughes, who was placed on the disabled list after suffering a broken right fibula. As of now, the Yankees are reportedly leaning toward keeping DeSalvo in the rotation and sending Rasner back to Triple A Scranton Wilkes/Barre.

Both Rasner and DeSalvo have been impressive this year. Rasner started the year with the Yankees and posted a 3.86 earned run average in three starts.

Since being sent down to Scranton, Rasner has gone 1-0, not allowing a run through eight innings in two appearances. DeSalvo has gone 3-0 with a 1.05 E.R.A. at Scranton.
