Hinkson Slough very good for nice largemouth Bass

BISHOP, CALIF. AREA: Gary Olson of the Bishop Creek Resorts (760-873-4484):

Intake No. 2: A 3-pound, 7-ounce rainbow on a nightcrawler. Fishing was great. Lime Power Bait seemed best.

North Lake: Some nice limits. Nightcrawlers did best.

South Lake: Still ice covered but lot of water showing along shoreline. Best with worms.

Bishop Creek: A 4-pound, 8-ounce rainbow with a jig and a 5-pound, 3-ounce rainbow.

BLUE LAKES AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930): The road is still closed, 6 miles up the road.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Jeffry Wenger of the Bridgeport Reservoir RV Park and Marina (888-377-1677) or (760-932-7001): Fishing is rated as good with some slow periods. The fish are all over the place and are staying deep except for a couple of hours every day. The rainbows are 2-5 pounds and we just had a plant of Alper's Trophy Trout. Fly fishing has been tough.

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported Romaine Smokey of Woodfords fished from shore on Saturday by Woods Creek and caught a 14-pound Mackinaw.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF: West Carson River: Dave Kirby reported: It is nice shape. The state planted last week and some fish were being caught over the weekend.

CONVICT LAKE, CALIF: Launa Strickland at the Convict Lake Resort (800-992-2260): The biggest fish were: 7-pounds, 10-ounces on rainbow Power Bait from the south shore, 7-pounds, 1-ounce on a Kastmaster lure from the south shore, 6-pounds, 11-ounces on yellow Power Bait from the north shore, 6-pounds, 4-ounces on a nightcrawler from the south shore, 5-pounds, 14-ounces on Salmon egg Power Bait from the south shore and 5-pounds, 5-ounces on a Trout Teaser from the north shore.

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association reported: Trolling action picked up for anglers pulling Wee Dick Nites and Needlefish. Rainbows have been running 16-21 inches, hitting in early a.m. at about 8 feet deep. Good catfish action also.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683): Bank fishing and still-fishing good off the bottom with nightcrawlers or Power Bait, especially at the boat ramp. Troll nightcrawlers, garlic marshmallows or flashers from Big Cove to the north end.

HINKSON SLOUGH, NEV (on the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area): Largemouth Bass fishing is very good right now. One fisherman caught and released 30 bass in 2 hours on Saturday morning. Another fisherman did very well late Saturday and late Sunday. They are using plastic or rubber worms, both from shore and float tubes. There has been good fishing off the bank by the dike. The largest bass was a 5.5 pounder.

JUNE LAKE LOOP. CALIF: John Logue of Ernie's Tackle Store at (760) 648-7756 reported: The biggest fish was a 3-pound, 12-ounce rainbow caught on a black Woolly Bugger fly at Silver Lake.

Bait fishing has been good with Gulp Power Bait, Chunky Cheese or Salmon Peach color. Spincast at Gull Lake with Thomas Buoyant or Kastmaster lures.

KIRMAN (AKA CARMEN) LAKE, CALIF: Jim Reid reported two fly fishermen landed 6 fish with the largest a 18.5 inch Brook trout. They were using small streamers.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Missy at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): I have a photo of a fisherman holding two beautiful Walleye that look about 28 inches long and they were caught over by the dam. Lots of Walleye being caught all over the lake. Nightcrawlers are working better than anything else.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: George and Carla Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store at (775) 476-0555: Yesterday was a little slow, we (Pyramid Lake Charters) only caught 8. The day before, we caught 20, up to 6 pounds. The shore fishing has slowed down a little, and the fishing is not as good as it was before.

RED LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported it has been slow. The few fish being caught are gorged with small worms, apparently from the spring runoff.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): We have been trolling 50-240 feet deep. We locate the fish on the fish finder and then troll in a "Figure Eight" pattern, bouncing the bottom. I've been fishing at Cal-Neva and Dollar Points. Nothing big.

TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck and Linda Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550): The water level is starting to drop already. It was pretty slow over the weekend, with not a lot of people. I only saw 5 boats all weekend plus a couple of shore fishermen. We are starting to get jet skis and water skiers now.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF: Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village (760-932-7071): Wes Tanaka of Genoa got a 4-pound, 9-ounce rainbow trolling a gold Thomas Buoyant lure. Another angler had a stringer that totaled 16 pounds, including a 6-pound 6-ounce rainbow.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF: Jim Reid reported fishing has been great, as usual. Float tubers with small streamers doing the best. Spincasters and bait fishermen have been doing OK.

WALKER LAKE, NEV: Don Hettrick, Bob McCulloch and Don and Elaine Quilici, all of Carson City, fished in their chest waders at the far south end of the lake, last Thursday morning. Spincasting with lures was very slow with about one fish per hour. The cutthroat were in the 2-pound class. Lots of moss .

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF: Jim Reid reported:

East Walker: Fishing is awesome. A 26.5 inch rainbow taken on Sunday with a No. 22 Disco Midge fly. A group of 8-9 family members all caught fish.

West Walker: Fishing is still tough but getting better. They are catching a few fish.

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF:

East Walker: Steve Osterman reported: The flow is currently 96 CFS. Try getting away from the "Miracle Mile" section near the dam and fish the pocket water down river. Blood Midges, Prince Nymphs and soft hackle Hare's Ears.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, NEV: Dennis Dunn, Mark and Scott at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: 3-pound Wipers are hitting nightcrawlers. Small gold flashers with a worm are hot on trout. Minnow imitations are best for browns. Browns are also good in the river all the way to Owyhee. Remember to bring your bug spray.
