A service for Lester H. Groth, 83, a lifetime Carson City resident, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Groth died May 17, 2007, at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Carson City, to Lester Otto and Maude Helen DeVoe Groth.
He married Margie Y. Riise on Oct. 1, 1943, in Carson City.
Mr. Groth worked for the Nevada Appeal, the Nevada State Printing Office, was Carson City fire chief and was a fire prevention coordinator for the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
He served two tours in the U.S. Navy and belonged to the Civil Air Patrol.
He was a member of Warren Engine Company where he also served as chief; director of the Nevada Fireman's Association; president, Nevada Fire Chiefs Association; president Western Fire Chief Association; served as an advisory board member of International Fire Chiefs Association; member, State Fire Marshals advisory board; president, Carson City Chapter, Retired Public Employees Association; grand marshal, Nevada Day Parade; 50-year member of Masonic Lodge and a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and community service.
He was preceded in death by sister Jeanne and son Lester Lee.
Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; daughter and son-in-law Merrilee and Bud Dreeson of Yerington; son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Dina Groth of Tucson, Ariz.; brother and sister-in-law George and Chloe Groth of Carson City; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
