Dream season continues for WNCC baseball

For those among us who were thinking the Western Nevada Community College Wildcats ought to have been proud to have made it to the junior college world series, it appears we weren't thinking big enough.

How big? As big as the Wildcats players and coaches, who fearlessly dismantled the country's top-ranked junior college team on Monday afternoon in Grand Junction, Colo.

They weren't content to show up and take baby steps in building the WNCC baseball program, in only its second year. They went into the tournament with one of the toughest draws, but they're going for it all. If you haven't gotten behind them, now would be a good time.

After a successful but mildly disappointing regular season, the Wildcats are showing what teamwork, positive thinking and emotion can do. They've been underdogs in just about every game they've played in the postseason, and their defeat New Mexico Community College must have surprised even some of the team's diehard fans.

To the entire Wildcats team ... congratulations and keep it up! A proud community is rooting you on from 750 miles away.

You can catch live inning-by-inning updates of their next game, which begins at 6:30 p.m. today in Grand Junction, at nevadaappeal.com.
