Rowan, Stecher and Sousa play at BAC tonight

The Brewery Arts Center and X-Ville South present the folk legend Peter Rowan with Jody Stecher in Carson City at 7:30 p.m. today. The show will open with local favorite guitarist Beans Sousa.

Rowan used to sing for the all-star Bluegrass band Old and in the Way, as well as the folk-rock outfit Sea Train. Today Rowan is dipping into stripped-down country-folk songs composed of just his voice, guitar and harmonica.

Rowan is joined by two-time Grammy nominated Jody Stecher, a multi-instrumentalist playing on a multitude of stringed instruments - including fiddle, guitar, mandolin and banjo.

Opening the show is Beans Sousa. Throughout the '70s, '80s, and '90s, Sousa spent his 30-year career performing, recording, traveling the country and playing music with influential musicians.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $28 all seating, with $3 off BAC members, seniors and students. Call 883-1976.

Plan now to enter the 2008 art show

Participants in the annual Western Nevada College Recycled Arts Show should begin rummaging and thinking creatively now to prepare their entries for the 2008 show.

The contest featuring objects d'art" that have been previously used for something else, will move its deadline to an earlier date than in past years.

Entries will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, Feb. 25-28, at the Bristlecone Building Main Information Desk.

The contest is open to WNC students, staff and everyone in the community. Entrants must use recycled materials and all 2D objects must be fitted with wire or string so they can be hung on a wall. Beyond that, anything goes. Call 445-3274.
