Flag-Retirement Ceremony, 10 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran School, 1837 Mountain St. The American Legion Capital Post 4 will be at the school for a flag-retirement ceremony. All are welcome. All students K-8 grades will be attending, parents and the community are invited to join us. Call 882-5252.
Carson Middle School will host a Veterans Day Commemoration Program 8:45-9:30 a.m. In conjunction with the program, there will a flag retirement ceremony. The Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 will celebrate the U.S. Marine Corps birthday with a Veterans Spaghetti Dinner 5-7 p.m. at the Carson City Elks Lodge, 515 N. Annual Virginia City Veterans Day Parade, down C Street in Virginia City beginning at 11 a.m. This year Virginia City will honor Glenn Tierney of Carson City, a retired test pilot who worked on the first Sidewinder guided missile system. Veterans Day ceremony, Lone Mountain Cemetery, 3 p.m., 1044 Beverly Drive. Gen. William Passmore Carlin Camp 25 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will hold a short service and wreath laying at the Custer Post 5 Grand Army of the Republic Civil War monument. Call 972-7420.
All military personnel, active and retired, and their families will receive free admittance to any national park in honor of Veterans Day. The fee waiver applies to entrance fees only. Normally, 147 National Park Service sites charge entrance fees ranging from $3-$25. Some parks might also waive other fees on an individual basis. Veterans Day and National Public Lands Day in September are the only annual dates when entrance fees are waived nationwide.
Note: Veterans Day is traditionally observed on Sunday, but Monday is a day off for many workers.
