An account has been set up at Nevada State Bank to help the family pay for a funeral for 9-year-old Patrick Ryea, who died Friday night in a shed fire in South Carson City.

Nominations sought for Governor's Points of Light Award
The Governor's Points of Light Award is "Nevada Volunteers." It is the Commission on National and Community Service's highest honor for community volunteerism recognizing individuals as well as nonprofit organizations and corporations for their efforts. Special awards are given for youth and senior volunteers. Deadline for nominations is Nov. 16. Forms available online at www.AmeriCorpsNevada.org.

Voice for women in Islamic society speaks tonight
Farooka Gauhari, a voice for women in Islamic society, will share harrowing encounters faced by countless Afghan families, including her own, as part of Western Nevada College's 2007-08 Cultural Series, "Faces, Voices & Stories." The free event is 7 p.m. today at WNC's Marlette Hall, 2201 West College Parkway. Gauhari will talk about her search for her missing husband, the violent fall of her country, and the decision to take her family and leave a country where she had been accused of being an American agent. She will discuss what it's like to be a woman in Islamic society, what the future holds for the new Afghan government, and her new life in the United States, where she fears retaliation because of her Afghan and Muslim background. 'When You Comin' Back, Red Ryder?' auditions today
Proscenium Players will hold auditions for its third play of the season, "When You Comin' Back, Red Ryder?", directed by Jeffrey Scott. Auditions will be 6:30 p.m. today and 1 p.m. Saturday at the Brewery Arts Center.
The cast consists of three women, ages 18 to 40, and five men, ages 18 to 70. Production dates will are Feb. 15 through March 1. Call 882-3497.
Food for book fines this month
Patrons of the Carson City Library can clear overdue fines, or return long-overdue items and have their fines waived, by participating in the Food Drive scheduled to run through Nov. 30.
Amnesty does not apply to lost or damaged items. Amnesty for overdue fines will be offered in exchange for non-perishable canned or boxed goods, pastas, rice, dried beans, flour, grocery store gift card, cereals, and baby food items. Carson City Library staff reserve the right to refuse damaged or inappropriate items.

This is the story of a young man wounded in Vietnam who is saved by a man he never saw.

A community flu shot clinic will be 1:30-5:30 p.m. today at the Dayton Professional Building, 901 Medical Center Drive.

Vendors sought for Christmas Bazaar
The Storey County Senior Center is seeking vendors for its annual Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale to be held Nov. 25-26.
The center is at the corner of Mill and E streets and will be open Thanksgiving weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Vendors are sought to participate in the bazaar. Tables are available at $10 each or a half-table for $5.
