LAS VEGAS " A Las Vegas man convicted of stabbing his girlfriend in the heart has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Ray Azcarate was convicted earlier by a jury for the 2004 killing of 23-year-old Stacey Jensen.
Prosecutors say Jensen's last gasps of life were recorded on a 911 tape when she managed to get her hands on a cell phone.
She died before she could speak.
During trial, the emergency dispatcher said she heard yelling and sounds of someone in agony before the call was disconnected. When she called back, a man answered and said everything was fine.
Officers were sent to the address linked to the cell phone, but the crime was committed elsewhere. They found Jensen's body later that night at an apartment.
