Carson City

UPS partners with Toys for Tots

The UPS stores in Carson City and Dayton, in conjunction with UPS Stores across the country, have teamed up with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation to mark the 60th anniversary of Toys for Tots with an in-store donation campaign to raise money and toys for children in need, "60 Days of Giving."

Now through Dec. 24, the UPS Stores will sell commemorative Toys for Tots donation cards for $1 each with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the Toys for Tots campaign in the communities where funds are raised.

Stores at 1894 Highway 50 E., 963 Topsy Lan, in Douglas County and 9 Retail Road in Dayton also serve as collection points for donated toys.

CTRMC offers health screenings

Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare hosts a Community HealthCheck Fair featuring affordable lab screenings at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center on the second Tuesday of each month. Doctor's orders are not required.

Screenings include: Comprehensive Metabolic and Lipid Panel, Prostate Specific Antigen, Complete Blood Count, Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, and Hemoglobin A1c. Appointments are required.

Listen and dance to jazz at Comma Coffee

Enjoy big-band music featuring Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Jakki Ford from 8 to 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St. Tickets are $5 at the door; $4 for members of the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc., free for those age 18 and under.

Swing-dance instruction from 6-7:30 p.m., is $5 additional.

GROW giving Carson City $20,000 for landscaping

Gardners Reclaiming Our Waysides will present $20,000 to Carson City for use toward landscape design on the slopes and gateways of the Carson City Freeway Phase 1. The presentation will take place at the Board of Supervisors meeting from 9-11 a.m. Thursday.

The supervisors are scheduled to review and approve the stewardship agreement between NDOT and Carson City and GROW to administer the $2 million grant received from the Federal Highway Administration in 2005.

The $20,000 is from donations and grants GROW has received over the last 10 years. Join GROW for the presentation and refreshments. For information, contact 882-5055.

Dayton

Ski/snowboard registration open

The Dayton 4H Ski & Snowboard Club will hold an information and registration meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Dayton Intermediate School multipurpose room. The club is open to all Dayton students age 9 by Jan. 1, through high school. Trips to Mount Rose resort will begin on Jan. 11 and continue for six weeks.

Transportation by charter bus, lessons, equipment, and lift ticket are included in the package. Parents are also invited to participate. For information, contact 246-0961.

Community flu-shot clinic set for Tuesday

A flu-shot clinic is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at Minden Medical Center, 925 Ironwood Drive.

Flu clinics are open to everyone,e and no appointments are necessary. The cost for a flu shot is $25.00. For Medicare Part B patients there is no charge, but please bring your card.

Library celebrating Book Week

The Douglas County Public Library is having a Book-a-Day Raffle at the Minden and Zephyr Cove branches to celebrate Children's Book Week. Come to the library Tuesday-Saturday and enter to win a free book. Every day a book will be given away to a child age 12 and under.
