USDA food distribution today
The USDA Commodity Food Distribution will be 9-11 a.m. today at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St. This month's commodity foods include pinto beans, grape juice, egg noodles, peanut butter, canned corn, canned peaches and canned tomatoes.
Any needy family in Carson City can be eligible. The household must sign the "Issuance Sheet" at the Community Center certifying that their household's annual income does not exceed 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. Those income guidelines are $18,889 for a single and $25,327 for a couple. A picture ID/driver's license is required. Food may be picked-up for the homebound or those unable to attend by bring a signed note from them and their picture ID. Call 688-2828 or 687-4680, ext. 0.
Five local artists show at CCAI Gallery
"Carson 5," a group exhibition featuring work by local artists Carol Brown, Michael Gilbert, Nanette Oleson, Ralph Phillips, and James Simpson, is the new exhibition at CCAI Downtown!, Capital City Arts Initiative's temporary gallery and project space at the northeast corner of Curry and Third streets.
Carson 5 opens with a reception for the artists in conjunction with the launch of Box Sled Publishing 5-7 p.m. today and runs through Jan. 18. A holiday party, art and book sale is 1-5 p.m. Dec. 1.

Amelia Bedelia at Zephyr library for book week
Meet Amelia Bedelia 3:30 p.m. today at The Douglas County Public Library in Zephyr Cove as part of Children's Book Week. Amelia will meet students at Zephyr Cove Elementary School and escort them to the library. A signed permission slip from parents is required. Parents must pickup their child at the library at 4:30 p.m. Call 588-6411.
