Misfits present holiday show

The Misfits Theater Group will present a special Christmas dinner and mystery show Dec. 7-8 upstairs at Chuck's Old West Grill in the historic Odeon Hall, 65 Pike St., Dayton. The show is written and directed by Tony Thornburg.

The audience will enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner of turkey, ham and all the fixings. Tickets are $25, including dinner. Call Carol at 246-9622 for reservations.

Riverview holds first Christmas concert Dec. 13

Riverview Elementary School will present its first annual Christmas concert at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 in its multipurpose room, 1200 Feretto Parkway.

Students from kindergarten through fifth grade will perform classic Christmas carols and familiar tunes like "Jingle Bell Rock," "Silver Bells," "Frosty the Snowman" and "Winter Wonderland."

Some songs will be performed with piano accompaniment, and others will be done with students providing their own accompaniment. Still others will be performed with American Sign Language hand signs choreographed by students.

Kindergarten through second grade will perform from 6:30 to 7 p.m., followed by a 20-minute intermission then the third through fifth grades will perform from 7:30 to 8 p.m.

Ski and Snowboard Club targets kids

Final information and registration meetings for the Dayton 4H Ski and Snowboard Club will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in the Dayton Intermediate School multipurpose room.

The club is open to all Dayton students ages 9 (by Jan.1) through high school.

Trips to Mount Rose resort will begin on Jan. 11 and continue for six weeks.

Transportation by charter bus, lessons, equipment and lift tickets are included in the package price of $255.

Members providing their own equipment will receive a reduced rate of $215. Enrollment is limited.

Irish show at Oats Park Art Center

Churchill Arts Council will present two performances by Téada, of Ireland, and special guests at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Oats Park Art Center, 151 E. Park St., Fallon.

Tickets are $17 for CAC members, $20 for nonmembers, $10 for children/students and are available at 423-1440. Doors open an hour before show time. There will be a no-host art bar at each event and CAC's galleries will be open.

Angel Tree adoption program begins

The annual Angel Tree adoption program sponsored by Community Chest Inc. has begun.

The angel trees, in the Virginia City Post Office and Hillside Elementary School, will contain cutout angels as ornaments.

The ornaments have wishes of people in the county who need holiday gifts.

Jenna Blubaugh, of Community Chest, said the purpose of the program is to provide warm winter clothing for children and adults of Storey County.

Donors can take an angel off the tree, purchase the items listed, wrap and label them, and return them to the tree.

Christmas Parade of Lights Saturday

Floats, marching groups and equestrians will be decorated for the annual Christmas on the Comstock Parade of Lights down C Street on Saturday.

The parade will begin at 5 p.m., with registration and lineup beginning at 4 p.m., at the Historic Fourth Ward School at the south end of town.

The parade, the kickoff to Virginia City's annual monthlong Christmas on the Comstock festival, will feature Beauregard, the car-driving dog; the Sierra Pacific Hot Stix drill team; many floats lit up and decorated for the season and Santa Claus.

Ribbons will be awarded to the best entries, and late entries are welcome.

Second annual 'Ebenezer Scrooge - Jazz'd Up LIke The Dickens'

"Ebenezer Scrooge - Jazz'd Up Like the Dickens" will be performed by DanceSpirit Performing Arts for the second straight year at Piper's Opera House.

Showtime is 1 p.m. Saturday at the historic opera house at B and Union Streets, Virginia City.

This adaptation of "The Christmas Carol" classic will include many forms of dance such as tap, jazz, ballet and hip-hop. The music ranges from classic Broadway to the 1960s, '70s and '80s, back to traditional Christmas music.

Other shows will be Dec. 15-16 at the Carson City Community Center.

Ticket prices are $10 for children 8 and under and seniors 55 and older, and $18 for adults.

Cowboys Christmas show at Piper's

David John and the Comstock Cowboys will perform their annual "Christmas in the Sierra" production at Piper's Opera House at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8.

The band mixes Christmas songs cowboy-style with holiday originals and traditional carols.

Santa will be on hand for the children.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and veterans and $12 for children younger than 12. There are also eight seats in the stage boxes for $30 each.

Tramp miner's life becomes book

The true-life escapades of the late tramp miner Billy Varga, who called himself "the last hard-rock miner," are told in a new book by his wife, Melody Varga Quenemoen, and Kristen Bachler.

Turning their backs on the easy life in Los Angeles, the Vargases hit the road in 1985 and ended up in Virginia City, discovering along the way that boom, bonanza and borasca have nothing to do with the price of gold, the strength of love or the fulfillment of dreams.

The authors will sign their book from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 8. at the Mark Twain Bookstore, 111 South C Street, Virginia City.

St. Mary's Art Center to host wine tasting

St. Mary's Art Center will offer the Twisted Vine Holiday Wine Tasting at 4 p.m. Dec. 8.

Wine lovers can spend the afternoon talking with vintners showcasing their wines, sampling delicious appetizers and strolling around the newly renovated and redecorated SMAC Art and Retreat Center in historic Virginia City.

All proceeds benefit programming at the center.

The event is being organized by Anthony Kingland of Appellation Wine Co. of Reno.

Tickets are available for a donation of $25 for individuals and $45 for couples and can be purchased by calling the center at 847-7774.

Theater Muckers present 'The Tempest'

The Virginia City High School Theater Muckers will perform William Shakespeare's "The Tempest' for their fall 2007 production.

"The Tempest" is believed to be the last play written solely by Shakespeare.

The play will be performed at 1 p.m. Wednesday and 7 p.m. Dec. 6-7 in the Virginia City High School commons.

Tickets are $10 for adults; $7 for students and children younger than 12.

'Nutcracker' ballet tickets on sale

The Reno Dance Company's Hometown Nutcracker, sponsored by the Through A Child's Eye Foundation with support from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, will be performed at 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 8-9 at the Dini Center for the Performing Arts in Yerington.
