It was a somewhat sluggish start for the Dayton High boys basketball team, but the Dust Devils were able to gradually pull away for a 60-46 win over Lone Pine, Calif., on Thursday in the first round of their own Sutro Classic.
Dayton advanced to face Silver Stage, a 66-47 winner over Bishop, Calif., at 7:30 p.m. today.
"It was kind of sloppy, lots of turnovers, kind of what you expect, first game jitters," Dayton coach T.W. Cunningham said.
Dayton led 13-9 after the first quarter, 32-23 at halftime and 44-33 after three quarters. Tanner Wood scored 14 points and Jerrin Foster, Hans Meyer and Chris Sikora all added eight points for Dayton.
