Members recently elected to the Dayton Senior Center's Advisory Council were sworn in Tuesday after a lunch of pork chops, stuffing, green salad, broccoli and cauliflower, and a red apple at the center.
Newly elected members are Claire Powell and Joseph Emanuelson. Re-elected to the council are Tom Hass and Edward Johnson. Finishing the second year of their two-year term are Lillian Flaig and George Skibinski. Terri Malo is the appointed member.
Lyon County Commissioner Bob Milz officiated the duties of swearing in the new members, who all hold their positions for two years.
As a new member, Emanuelson said the first objective for him is to listen for a while and learn what it's all about.
"Then I'll do what I can, what's best for the senior center," he said.
Emanuelson, a resident of Dayton, said he and his wife have been members of the center about five years. He said he goes to the center to play pool, and was asked to run for the council.
Flaig, who lives in Mark Twain, said being a member of the council has been interesting.
"We help protect the seniors' rights," Flaig said. "I have enjoyed doing this."
Donna English, the center's director, there are a couple of matters the new council will be discussing in upcoming months.
"They'll be looking at trying to get our computer lab up and running, and the expansion of the building. So we can better accommodate our exercise class," she said.
"I feel the new council members will do a fine job representing the other seniors."
The Dayton Senior Center, 320 Old Dayton Valley Road, is open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays.
