The Carson High girls soccer team will now need some help if it's going to defend its Sierra League title.

Carson settled for a 2-2 tie at Reno High on Saturday, leaving it at 6-1-1 in the league standings. First place South Tahoe was 7-0 going into Saturday's action.

The Senators will play at South Tahoe on Tuesday, but even if Carson can beat the Vikings, it will need somebody else to either beat or tie South Tahoe to have a chance at the league crown. "We'll need somebody hopefully to knock them off," Carson coach Randy Roser said.

Carson had to overcome two mistakes that led to both goals to salvage the tie. Carson trailed 1-0 eight minutes into the second half when Brandi Vega was fouled in the goal box. "They just dropped her hard," Roser said.

Becca Kane converted the penalty kick to tie the score 1-1. After Reno took a 2-1 lead, Vega responded by sending a shot from just outside the goal box into the upper corner of the net to force the tie. Jen Johnson also made a save on a penalty kick for Carson.

"We played really well," Roser said. "The two mistakes cost us two goals and we had a couple of great opportunities that we just missed. We had some great opportunities.

"They (Reno) played a very defensive game. They basically let us come at them. We definitely I thought controlled the game and did everything right. We just didn't put enough of them in the net."
