As the ball drifted to the left side, Douglas High outside hitter Taryn Williams hammered it home for the kill to put the match away and sum it up nicely in one swing of the arm.
Douglas feasted on the left side all night, scoring nearly a game's worth of kills there, 23 to be exact, on its way to a 25-15, 25-23, 25-14 win over Carson Tuesday night in Minden.
Williams finished with 10 kills and tandem left-side hitter Jourdan Burke put away 12 more to lead the Tigers in the win.
While the outside hitters spread out the Senator defense, Jessica Waggoner took over in the middle, recording 11 kills of her own. Megan Mitchell paced the Tiger offense, dishing out 33 assists during the sweep.
Nikki Keller led the Senators with seven kills while Shannon Earwood had 16 assists.
Douglas got off to a quick start, scoring the first four points of the match before putting Carson on the board with an unforced error. The Tigers went on to build a 17-8 lead before the Senators quietly put together a rally to get back in the game.
Earwood dished to Keller on two consecutive kills to get a run started and Danae Eckhart served up an ace to draw within five at 17-12. Keller came up with a big block, Earwood and Keller teamed up on another kill, Eckhart had another ace and Earwood found Nicole Carlevato for a kill to complete a 6-0 run. The run brought Carson within two and forced a Douglas timeout.
Douglas came out with a kill from Waggoner off a Mitchell assist to spark an 8-0 run to end the game without allowing another point from the Senators.
Carson held the advantage through most of the middle of Game 2 and appeared ready to take the game after Douglas sent the ball into the net, giving the Senators a 23-22 lead and the momentum.
Douglas however came out on the top end of a blistering exchange at the net during which both teams came up with a number of unbelievable blocks and saves before Mitchell looped the ball out to Williams for a kill.
Carson was called for an error on the next point and Mitchell sent it outside again where Burke put the match away 25-23.
The Senators were still riding a fairly heavy dose of the momentum, however, working out to a quick 5-1 lead in Game 3 and pushing it to 8-3 on a run highlighted by a block from Eckart.
Carson sent the ball short on the next point however and Douglas launched an impressive 17-1 run to push the score to 20-9.
During the run, Douglas mixed up its inside and outside attack while getting six kills from Burke, two from Waggoner and one from Mitchell.
Carson managed five more points but Douglas put the match away on a 3-1 run.
The Senators had an impressive serving game as Eckart, Earwood and Blaike King each had two aces and Breanna Anderson, Carlevato and Kristina Diamond each had one.
Douglas got two aces from Williams and Burke, Mitchell, Melissa Brown and Jordan Marsh each had one.
