Cabaret Kids appear at Comma Coffee
Wild Horse Children's Theater and Comma Coffee are presenting a new, noncompetitive venue for kids to perform. "Cabaret Kids" will take the stage at Comma Coffee on the second Friday of every month.
The premiere performance is 7 p.m. today and includes Heather Hall, Stephanie and Melissa Kulla, Monica and Melody Ricketts, Anne Marie, Logan Bard, Erryn Bard, Kasia McKay & Mysha Van Straten, Heather Canfield & Katie Rominger, Laura Mohlenkamp and Jayme Foremaster. Admission is free and donations will be accepted to benefit Wild Horse Children's Theater scholarship program.

'Phantom of Soap Opera' at BAC
"The Phantom of the Soap Opera," a mystery and a comedy plays today through Sunday at the Brewery Arts Center's Black Box Theater. This murder-mystery spoof of the famous "Phantom" story features the CHS Capitol Stars and is the musical Halloween treat for the family. This production is by Carson Performing Arts.
"Phantom of the Soap Opera" plays 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E William St. Tickets are $9 for general admission, $7 for children and students (with a Student Body Card), and $8 for seniors and students. Call 283-1684.

Children's Book Writers reading at Fourth Ward
The public is invited to a free community reading 7:30-9 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Fourth Ward School in Virginia City hosted by the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Society of Children's Book Writers.
The reading will feature the work of nationally known authors as well as selected Virginia City elementary, middle and high school students.
Prior to the conference, Chet Gecko Mystery series author Bruce Hale, Phantom Stallion and Wild Horse Island series author Terri Farley and best-selling young-adult author Ellen Hopkins of "Crank," "Burned," "Impulse" and "Glass" will visit students at Hugh Gallagher Elementary and Virginia City Middle and High schools to discuss their craft. Interfaith service today in support of immigrants
Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada is working with people of faith, labor, business, and community organizations to come together in an interfaith service in support of the immigrant community in the wake of federal raids earlier this month.
The interfaith gathering will be at 3 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, 209 W. First St. Call 348-7557.
